Mike Hollis
Mike has worked in a variety of healthcare fields over the past 30 years, ranging from general practice to hospitals. He has also undertaken a number of different roles in these settings, including nursing, operational management, recruitment and sales. Commenting on the diversity of his career so far, Mike says: “This has provided me with a broad understanding of the industry dynamics and the issues encountered in a wide variety of environments.”
The industry has, of course, changed somewhat in that time. About what he feels have been major changes in the field, Mike says: “The technical advances in technology and the introduction of AI solutions have had a significant impact on the healthcare profession. The implementation of these solutions requires additional support and training for clinicians.”
Mike joined the Getz Healthcare team because he was looking for the next step in his professional development. He wanted a new environment and a new challenge, and we are delighted he chose to share and further broaden his expertise with us. Mike expands: “I wanted a change of direction from day-to-day operational management and was looking for a role that encompassed both clinical and management aspects. Becoming a Territory Manager with Getz Healthcare provided me with a variety of different work scenarios, including in clinical sales and support. I find the culture and ethics of Getz Healthcare, which are centred around patient outcomes, to be in-line with my own principles.
“Since joining, my role has evolved. I started out in the Surgical Division as a Territory Manager in Queensland, and I now look after a number of portfolios, such as Product Specialist.”
Reflecting on his role today, Mike considers what it entails and what a typical day looks like for him: “I am responsible for managing the Surgical and Imaging Portfolio in Queensland. This entails customer facing sales, clinical training and providing support across the entire state. My key objectives are sales and support for a number of life-saving pieces of equipment.
“My job is different each day. Some days I am in hospitals providing clinical training in operating theatres or intensive care units and emergency departments, while other days I will be contacting surgeons to discuss new products and conducting trials. Whatever I’m doing, I pride myself on offering a comprehensive, high-quality service to all my clients. I am accessible and professional and build my practice around strict moral and ethical principles.”
When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Mike added: “I like facilitating clinical education and case support. The most challenging aspect of the role would be coordination of training and presentations with current workload demands on staff in hospitals, but it’s rewarding to be able to help individuals advance their skills and improve patient care.
“It’s also great to work with a Getz Healthcare team that is so professional and ethical. We all work together in providing ongoing support to each other and are focused on achieving positive patient outcomes.”
