WoundClot™ Trauma is the latest generation of haemostatic gauze dressing. It is an ideal first-response when treating open wounds, working to stop the bleeding and protect the site, even with high-pressure bleeding. Quick and simple to apply, WoundClot™ Trauma is suitable for a wide range of traumatic wounds, giving patients more time to seek emergency healthcare support.
WoundClot features a rapid bioresorption profile ensuring a marked decrease in the chance of an adverse event occurring. WoundClot typically breaks down and is absorbed by the body within 7-14 days, which is significantly quicker than other options that may take over 40 days.
Ready for immediate use, the haemostatic gauze is manufactured from cellulose, a natural fibre material, setting it apart as the only non-oxidised, non-regenerated cellulosic structure (NONRCS) haemostatic.
How it works
WoundClot™ gauze is unique in that its cellulose structure forms a patented, thick and resilient 3D gel matrix upon encountering blood, which achieves rapid and stable haemostasis – even during high-pressure bleeding. It is capable of absorbing up to 25 times its initial weight in blood and remains effective for up to 24 hours for complete peace of mind.
Upon contact with blood, WoundClot™ undergoes a molecular transformation, creating a gel-like membrane that adheres to the wound, instantly reducing blood flow. Platelets then bind to the gauze, forming a resilient barrier capable of withstanding severe blood flow for extended periods.
Certain molecular groups created during the manufacturing process are subsequently distributed as the gel forms. These groups serve to activate diverse coagulation factors in the blood, thereby aiding in the formation of a naturally occurring fibrin clot within the wound.
Once bleeding ceases, the residual membrane can be safely irrigated from the wound without pulling on the soft tissue or disrupting the existing clot.
