WoundClot™ Surgical

WoundClot™ Surgical is a bioabsorbable Implantable haemostatic designed to effectively manage capillary, venous and arterial perioperative and postoperative bleeding. It reduces – or eliminates altogether – the need for blood drainage and transfusion, improving the patient experience. WoundClot features a rapid bioresorption profile ensuring a marked decrease in the chance of an adverse event occurring. WoundClot typically breaks down and is absorbed by the body within 7-14 days, which is significantly quicker than other options that may take over 40 days.

Ready for immediate use, the haemostatic gauze is manufactured from cellulose, a natural fibre material, setting it apart as the only non-oxidised, non-regenerated cellulosic structure (NONRCS) haemostatic.

The gauze is available in four different sizes to suit the needs of various surgeries and professional teams, optimising outcomes and facilitating healing.

How it works

WoundClot™ gauze is unique in that its cellulose structure forms a patented, thick and resilient 3D gel matrix upon encountering blood, which achieves rapid and stable haemostasis – even during high-pressure bleeding. It is capable of absorbing up to 25 times its initial weight in blood and remains effective for up to 24 hours for complete peace of mind.

Upon contact with blood, WoundClot™ undergoes a molecular transformation, creating a gel-like membrane that adheres to the wound, instantly reducing blood flow. Platelets then bind to the gauze, forming a resilient barrier capable of withstanding severe blood flow for extended periods.

Certain molecular groups created during the manufacturing process are subsequently distributed as the gel forms. These groups serve to activate diverse coagulation factors in the blood, thereby aiding in the formation of a naturally occurring fibrin clot within the wound.

Once bleeding ceases, the residual membrane can be safely irrigated from the wound without pulling on the soft tissue or disrupting the existing clot.

WoundClot™ solutions have a number of features that benefit patients and professionals:

  • Non-exothermic, which ensures heat is not increased at the injury site to promote clotting.
  • Formula consists of a non-oxidised, non-registered cellulose structure, which is also non-irrigating to enhance patient comfort and minimise the risk of allergic reactions.
  • No manual pressure is needed for WoundClot™ solutions to be effective.
  • Multiple modes of action: rapid blood absorption; aggregation of platelets and red blood cells; and activation of clotting factors.
  • Easily removed, if needed, without causing rebleeding.
  • Simple to apply.
  • Five-year shelf-life.
  • Minimal training required for healthcare professionals to use solutions
  • Creates biological haemostasis.
